Sold Egyptian Mau with Genetic Defect Complaint Rating: Company information: Mautrix Cattery Maryland United States I am writing on this board as a public service for anyone looking to purchase an Eqyptian Mau. About 3 months ago, I purchased 2 Silver Eqyptian Maus from the same litter. Just last week, one of them, Osi, had a blockage in his urethra and could not pass urine. I took him to the vet and got him catheterized. He was left over the weekend and I picked him up Monday. He then reblocked Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Got him recatheterized and brought him home. That night it happened yet again so we had to bring him to emergency over Thanksgiving. It turns out he has a rare form of stones called urate stones which is apparently due to his missing an enzyme which helps digest uric acid. He had to have surgery to remove 8 stones from his bladder as well as to remove his penis to enlarge the urethra. We paid $1, 600 for the boys and only 3 months later he had these procedures that have run us about $9, 000 due to the number of times catheterized as well as having gone to emergency services to perform these procedures. The first time I contacted Laurie Coughlin she wrote back and was offering some support. However, after I told her about the surgery and costs associated as well as the potential for us having to return the other boy, there has been dead silence. We never asked for a refund or any money for the surgeries. We just wanted to let her know the financial and emotional stress this has caused us but she apparently is fearful for further action from us or something. Anyway, I hope this will help anyone who is considering purchase from her. As you can see from the photo I uploaded, Osi is still in a great deal of pain and suffering.
