Dai has a siesta as his Spanish saga turns sour
There has been a distinct deflation in the normal ebullience of Tiggerish baronet Sir David Llewellyn.
After a string of setbacks, including being ditched by his fiancee and failing to secure a Welsh Assembly seat, Sir Dai has been forced to abandon hope of ever receiving payments from a business partner on the Costa del Sol.
The 61-year-old Lothario moved to Spain last year after falling in love with Swedish interior designer Christel Jurgenson, who is based there. While abroad, he was hired by Christopher Derham, a former insurance salesman contracted by Saga magazine to help its readers wanting to buy Spanish retirement homes.
But Derham, who has been involved in a string of failed companies and saw his fellow director Paul Sweeney jailed for fraud two months ago, apparently ran out of money and failed to pay staff. Dai was among those left out of pocket.
From holiday in California, a forlorn Dai tells me: "I thought it would be a good idea to actually work while I was in Spain seeing Christel, but getting money out of Derham was like getting blood out of a stone.
"He is very plausible. It was one excuse after another. In the end, I said enough is enough and severed all connections with him."
