James Walker
Oil rig romance scam from Ghana
Dallas, Texas
I met a man on match.com who called himself James Walker who said he was in Dallas TX working for the oil company KCA Deutag. He was very kind and sweet and withing weeks of emailing each other back and forth he professed love for me and said he would marry me after he was done with his contract. He said he was being sent to work on an oil rig in the North Sea so that's why we couldn't meet. After 2 months of talking on the phone and emaling each other he asked me if I could claim his last contract payment of 4 million USD. He gave me the email and phone for the lawyer in Scotland, Barrister Orand Jose. The lawyer sent me an email with the beneficiary form, which only wanted my name, address, phone number and occupation and he wanted a scan of my passport to claim the money. At first I did not realize this was a scam, but my son alerted me to it. I contacted the Bar Association of the UK and found out that Orand Jose is not a lawyer in the UK. My son traced the IP addresses of the lawyer and James Walker and found out they were coming from Accra, Ghana. James Walker had also had my contact his 10 year old daughter, who was supposed to be in a boarding school in the UK, but her IP address came from Ghana as well. This is all an elaborate scam. I also took the lawyer's forms to the bank and they said they see this all the time and they are fraudulent. Please be aware that not all scams from Africa ask you for money. Sometimes they ask you to claim money and then they want you to pay taxes or fees on it, but there really is no money.
